When it comes to what to get baby and toddlers for gifts, there’s a fine line to walk between having too much stuff and having what you need. There are also SO MANY DANG OPTIONS for baby and toddler gifts that it can be easily overwhelming if you don’t have a plan. That’s why I came up with a curated 2020 baby and toddler gift guide for ya today. There is a section for baby gift ideas for 2020 and a separate space for toddler gift ideas for 2020 so that you can easily find the appropriate aged gifts that you’re looking for. On this gift guide for babies and toddlers I’ve also included a lot of our personal favorites that we’ve picked up over the last year and a half of parenthood.
A few notable ideas:
LOVEVERY Play Kit Subscription - When we realized that our beloved indoor playgrounds most likely wouldn’t be opening for the Alaskan winter this year, I knew we needed to get Jasper something to keep him occupied. So my mom (the best Nana) signed Jasper up for a Play Kit subscription from LOVEVERY. Each play kit is tailored to your child’s developmental stage (based on their birthday) and arrives every three months. One of my favorite things about these play kits is that it takes a lot of the guess work out of having to rotate Jasper’s toys every couple of months and each toy is incredibly made. I have a child who loves to throw anything he can get his hands on and he has yet to break one of the LOVEVERY toys!
Swim Lessons or an Experience/Activity/Membership - I will be sharing more on our method for handling Christmas and holiday gifts for our children in a few weeks when I share what Jasper is getting for Christmas and one of the things I make sure to always include on his “list” for grandparents is experiences. My mom purchased him a gift certificate for the local Children’s Museum in Fairbanks for his birthday (which we haven’t redeemed yet because of COVID) so I’m always on the hunt for similar ideas. I know he would love swim lessons and we want to get him comfortable swimming sooner rather than later so I figured that would be a good thing to have on his list this year. Another great options in a similar vein is an annual membership to your local zoo or aquarium.
Hello Magazine Subscription from Highlights - I have such fond memories of looking at Highlights magazines when I was growing up and I love that they have an option for kiddos from 0-2. At just $30 for a year long subscription, this is definitely something we’re planning on putting on Jasper’s Christmas list. The Hello magazine is staple free and is made from tear-resistant pages that are wipeable! Each magazine features stories, songs, games, and simple activities which I love!

Gift Guide for Ages 0-2
Presidio Dollhouse For Kids - I love the idea of giving a dollhouse as a Christmas gift and if Jasper was a little older, we’d definitely have something like this on his list. I love that this one is simple and features a lot of items you and I probably have around our house. Plus the imaginative play possibilities are endless when you offer a simplistic style dollhouse and the different sets you can get. It does say that this dollhouse isn’t suitable for those under the age of 3 but if you have an older toddler and want to get them something they can grow into or even a gift that can be shared by multiple children, I think this is a great option!
Melissa and Doug Fold and Go Wooden Barn Playset - We got Jasper this barn set a few months ago and it has quickly become one of his favorite and most played with toys. There are a few reasons I love this barn set. The first is that it’s affordable but also easy to thrift or find on Facebook marketplace. I’m always coming across barns in our thrift store toy section (especially now that I bought one elsewhere). The second reason is that it is great for imaginative play and so easy to add on to! Include some extra animals or farm-related toys as stocking stuffers and you’ve got a great gift. Full transparency: the animals that come with this barn are not my favorite. They’re a little weird looking and you can definitely find better animal figurines if you’re looking to add on to this set. I also like that it comes with a ladder and pasture as accessorize to the barn and the barn has handles making it easy for littles to pick up and carry or take on the go.
Farm Animal set of 14 Wooden Toys- The EcoToyStoreGifts shop on Etsy makes some of the most beautiful Waldorf/Montessori wooden toys I’ve ever seen and they’re actually affordable. I love the idea of “splurging” on a nice wooden animal set to go with a barn for Christmas, especially if you’re lucky enough to find a barn at your local thrift shop or on Facebook Marketplace.
Fisher-Price Hoppy Dreams Soother and Sleep Trainer - When I saw this while randomly browsing on Amazon the other day, I was instantly intrigued. This soother and sleep trainer is one of the items I’m considering for Jasper’s list this year. The plush features a light-up belly that indicates when it’s time to sleep and time to wake up and there’s also a curated playlist included to help toddlers wind down before bedtime. It’s also machine washable and controllable through a smartphone app. Jasper isn’t really attached to any blanket or stuffed animal so I love the idea of getting him one like this that is interactive but that can also help him sleep better at night.
Wooden Race Track Car Ramp Racer with 4 Mini Cars- One of Jasper’s first Lovevery boxes included a similar car ramp and he is obsessed with both the ramp and the little cars that came with it.
Natural Wooden Building Block Set - I’ll be honest, I’ve been avoiding getting a block set for Jasper because I don’t want to have to clean up blocks all of the time. But since he’s been obsessed with the London Bridge song from Cocomelon, I figured it would be a great time to invest in a good block set that can be passed down for a good long while. This set is affordable and includes 100 pieces. Get a personalized block to go with it and you don’t even have to worry about wrapping it for the holidays!
6 Pack Wooden Percussion Musical Shake Eggs - If you’ve got a younger baby or toddler on your holiday list, this 6 pack wooden percussion musical shake eggs set will be a huge hit! I purchased these for Jasper back in April of 2020 as part of his Easter gift and he is still finding new ways to play with them nearly 9 months later!
Retrospec Cub Kids Balance Bike - We got Jasper this balance bike in Eggshell for his birthday and it was definitely one of the best purchases we’ve made for him in 2020. He got a lot of great use out of this bike over the summer and even breaks it out in the garage and in our living room during the winter. He’s still working on the balancing it up by himself part but supposedly kids who use balance bikes end up not needing training wheels later on. If you live in a warmer climate, this is a great holiday gift.
KidKraft Terrace Garden Play Kitchen - A play kitchen is one of the other toys I’ve held off getting for Jasper until he was a little older but they really are great for kids anywhere from a year up. The one we purchased is sold out but I thought this Garden themed tiny kitchen was adorable. We’re planning on putting Jasper’s play kitchen inside his tiny house in his playroom which is a great idea for a larger gift for the holidays.
Little Tikes Hide and Seek Climber - This climber is a great option for little ones who are good at crawling and pulling up but aren’t quite ready to walk yet. We got this for Jasper for his birthday, around the time that he really started being interested in walking and he loves it! It’s not out all of the time at our house these days but we still get some great use out of it.
Skip Hop Baby Activity Center - Great for babies 4 months and older, this activity center is a perfect grow with me option! We used this exact one with Jasper and kept it for our next baby. It also turns into an activity table when your littles are older (as long as you don’t throw the table topper out like I did).
Lewo Wooden Rainbow Stacking Game - We got Jasper a set of the Rainbow stacking game for Christmas last year when he was just 8 months old and it’s incredible to see how much imaginative play you can get out of such a simple gift. Great for learning colors, fine motor skills, and so much more!
Natural Wooden Teether Rattles - Finding cute baby toys for very little babies is a challenge and I love this set of 5 different wooden teethers and rattles from Amazon. I’m already planning on scooping up a set for our next baby!
