"Give Yourself the Final Rose."
With Bachelor in Paradise in full swing, Alabama Hannah and her failed engagement are already old news (in the best way). A lot of us are so guilty of spending hours mindlessly watching the drama unfold on all of the Bachelor franchise series that it made me think about how we can use lessons from The Bachelor in our own lives.
From a young age, girls are conditioned to yearn for romance. We dream of the perfect guy, the perfect relationship, the perfect proposal and we are told that those things will equate to happiness and the perfect life. We painstakingly jump into dating and suffer heartbreak after heartbreak hoping to find "the one." Even I'm a sucker for romance (heck, it's my enneagram type) and have fallen prey to this ache for love that is so bad you'll ignore pretty much any red flag to make someone fit into your dream.
I'm someone who has lost themselves in a relationship a few more times than they would like to admit. Relationships that would eventually fizzle out or end in heartbreak. I think the thing that was so endearing about Hannah B. as the Bachelorette was how refreshingly herself she continued to be throughout the process. I've always wondered what would happen if a girl (or guy) just stood up there and withheld the final rose. Not because they sent home the wrong people but because they chose to give the final rose to themselves instead.
When it comes to any type of relationship, romantic or otherwise, it can be so easy to lose yourself. Whether you answer to a hundred cries for mom every day, have a husband and a home to look after, or just trying to be a good friend we have all found ourselves in the throes of life when we realize we have no idea who we are. When was the last time you did something for yourself? Something really and truly for YOU, not for your kids or your husband/significant other, etc.
I know it may not seem like the two ideas I'm talking about here connect but stay with me, I promise they do! We've all heard the saying that you can't love someone else until you learn to love yourself and I think that saying applies no matter what stage of a relationship you're in. I truly believe that you can't fully give your love to your wife/husband/friends/kids/etc. without taking the time to love on yourself too.
Taking the time to take care of yourself doesn't make you selfish.
So go get your hair done, have coffee with a friend. Take some time to read a book. Friend, if we were sitting on my couch drinking coffee here's what I would say to you: I challenge you to do one thing for yourself every day this next week. It won't be easy but I'm here to remind you that you are worthy of giving yourself the final rose too.

There are three things that are always on my goal list.
Wake up earlier
Journal every day
Do more creative writing
These are the three things that every year, without fail, I tell myself I’m going to do. When the kids were born waking up earlier became a way to survive, to wake up before them in order to get anything on my personal to do list done.

30 Day Journaling Challenge + Tips for Starting and Keeping a Journal
Aug 27, 2021
Do you know what the number one thing I could change about my life would be? In all honesty, I would change how inconsistent I’ve been in my almost 30 years of life when it comes to journaling. There are so many times in my life where I wish I had a journal to look back on so I could reflect on those experiences. Take my parents divorce for instance. I can recall some of the thoughts and feelings but I wish I had actually written them down.
My inability to journal consistently is part of the reasoning behind this post. We’re kicking off a 30 day journaling challenge on September 1st! Now, if you’re reading this and it’s not September 1st, that’s okay. It’s never too late to join this challenge.

How to Handle the Unexpected as a Military Spouse
May 12, 2021
A few weeks ago, my husband and I made a pretty big mistake. We joked about the possibility of him getting deployed this summer. Wouldn’t you know that just a few hours later we learned that that joke was most likely going to be our new reality? With our second baby due literally any day now, this was the last thing we were expecting and wanting to hear. But that’s the thing about military life: it knows how to throw you the unexpected curveballs, especially when you’re least expecting them.
I did not handle the news gracefully. I sobbed, called my mom, and pretty much sent myself into a downward spiral of despair. But after some time to reflect and process the news, I realized that there are much better ways to handle unexpected news as a military spouse. So I figured I would share a few of those with you today. This is basically my step-by-step approach to processing unexpected news as a military spouse. I hope you find it helpful!

Preparing to Formula Feed From Birth
May 5, 2021
I’ve kind of made it my mission since my first son to share my candid experience as a mom who hated breastfeeding as well as normalizing formula feeding and advocating for maternal medical professionals to consider the mother and mental health and not just endlessly push breastfeeding for 9 months.
So I plan on candidly sharing our experience choosing to formula feed from birth starting with how I’m preparing to formula feed from birth. My goal is to become a resource for others mamas who are struggling with finding information about formula feeding from birth because there’s truly a huge lack of information (and a lot of misinformation) out there about formula feeding.

The 30 Things I Want to Do Before I Turn 30
Apr 29, 2021
On Tuesday I rang in my 29th year, stuck inside for the second year in a row, alone with my toddler. While it wasn’t originally the birthday I was envisioning, I realized how special these simple moments can actually be. But since this is the final year of my twenties, I figured I couldn’t let the defining decade pass without doing some sort of bucket list. So, here’s the 30 things I want to do before I turn 30!

It’s hard to believe that we’ve been stationed in Fort Wainwright, Alaska for almost two full years now! We’ve spent two summers and two winters at Fort Wainwright so I felt that I was finally “qualified” enough to start sharing a little bit of information about living at Fort Wainwright. Naturally, I get questions all of the time about what Fort Wainwright is like and whether or not Fort Wainwright is a good duty station. I also get a lot of requests for post guides so I wanted to try and dip my feet into exploring the creation of more informative posts about where we’ve been stationed. I thought we’d keep it simple to start by doing a Fort Wainwright Pros and Cons list!
