Our Wedding: My Wedding Day Look + Extra Details
My wedding day look was absolutely everything I dreamed it would be. I wanted to look comfortable, myself, and most importantly, beautiful. I was so afraid, given how critical I am of my body, myself in pictures, etc. that I would get our photographs back and absolutely hate the way I looked but I'm happy to report that's not the case! Liza, our wonderful photographer has a way of capturing such natural beauty. I have never looked at one of the pictures she's taken of me and thought I looked bad. That's an art form, in my opinion.Â
The Wedding Dress
The minute I put on my dress on the morning of our wedding, I was so relieved that I had been able to avoid the wedding dress error of the century by wearing the wrong dress. This Essense of Australia dress was everything I dreamed of and so much more. The lace details accentuated my hips, the train was to die for, and the off the shoulder detail was super romantic. Justin couldn't get over the button detailing and I don't think he ever expected me to pick this kind of dress! Plus, the dress was lightweight and breathable. I was so comfortable the entire day!Â
The Veil
If you read any of our Wedding Planning Updates, then you already know I struggled to find the perfect veil. In fact, it wasn't until my second to last dress appointment that I even ordered one! Luckily it came in time for me to try it on with my dress at the last fitting and make sure it was absolutely perfect and let me tell you, it was! I am still getting compliments on how gorgeous my veil was, especially thanks to Liza's ability to work with a veil in pictures. I had a vision with my veil draping over the gorgeous train of my dress and giving it just the slightest bit more emphasis and I think that's a look that I achieved well.Â
I purchased both my wedding dress and the veil at The Vow Boutique in Morgantown, West Virginia and I can't say enough about how much I loved working with them.Â
Wedding Day Hair
I was lucky enough to have Lindsey of the LJ Bridal Team do my hair for our wedding. I'm super picky about who touches my hair because of that one time a lady shaved my head way back in the day so I knew that finding someone to do my hair for the wedding was going to be a bit of a challenge. Luckily, Lindsey had been doing my hair at Ulta basically since I moved to New York and when I realized she was who I met at a bridal show, I knew instantly that shew as going to do my wedding hair. I went back and forth about whether or not I was going to wear my hair up or down and I'm so glad I wore it up. It was SO HOT the day of our wedding so I would have been looking a hot mess if I had decided to wear mine down. She nailed the garden party, romantic updo vibe I was going for and she's just a total gem.Â
Wedding Day Makeup
When selecting my makeup for the wedding day, I knew I wanted to look like myself and wanted a simple look that would enhance my natural beauty. My girl Emily managed to do all of those things and make me look like a million freaking bucks the entire night. I've heard horror stories of brides looking back at pictures and realizing they wore too much makeup or thinking they didn't look like themselves and I'm happy to say I'm not one of them. Everything about my makeup was effortlessly beautiful and I am SO GLAD I went with lash extensions instead of false lashes.Â
Wedding Day Details
The lovely custom-made dress hanger was created by Jacq at Redamancy NYC and I am so obsessed with it. It fit in with the garden party theme perfectly and even if it was really just for pictures, I 100% don't regret getting it made. Jacq was such a pleasure to work with so if you're looking for a unique hanger for your wedding dress, definitely check this shop out!
For my wedding day, I knew I wanted to incorporate something from my grandmother who I lost suddenly when I was in college. She was like my best friend and not having her there was a really hard thing for me to process leading up to the wedding. My dad had saved a ton of her quilting fabric when they went through her stuff all those years ago and there happened to be some blue fabric that he had. I decided to wrap it around my bouquet so that it would be a constant reminder that she was there. I also pinned a little Armor pin on my bouquet to represent the new journey Justin and I would be taking on together. After attending a few socials with other Armor wives, I know this was a solid life decision.Â
