Since getting into thrifting, I’ve been focusing a lot on where my money is going and how much I’m spending on things I don’t need. It’s also made me a lot more critical of bloggers and Instagrammers who link EVERYTHING under the sun. Don’t get me wrong, that’s fine for them but I don’t want you guys to come here to this space and feel pressured to by ALL OF THE THINGS.
So, since it’s the first Random Sh*t I Love of a brand new year (and a new decade!), I figured I would change things up a little bit. You’ve been asking me to share more about what I’m reading and watching and that sort of thing so I decided to include a few other categories in my monthly favorites posts from now on.
First, we’ll start off with the things I bough each month that I believe should truly be on your radar. Second, I’ll be rounding up my favorite thrifted finds for each month. We’ll round out each month with what I’ve read, watched, and listened to each month followed by one or two of my favorite experiences or memories.
Let me know what you think of the new setup for this post!
Bought
Old Navy Star Wars Graphic Tee - I have gotten so many compliments on this random T-shirt I picked up at Old Navy just before leaving Alaska at the beginning of the month. I’ve been having so much fun styling it in different ways (I didn’t pack a lot of clothes to bring since I wanted to do some thrifting) and it’s comfortable enough to sleep in too.
True & Co Bras from Target - I mentioned these on my Instagram stories a while back and I’m still obsessed with them. In fact, other than a sports bra, I haven’t worn any other bra since and will definitely be throwing away all of my other bras once I return to Alaska. I picked up two more of the True bras at Target while traveling, a scoop neck and then one with smaller straps. If you haven’t tried one of these babies yet, head to your local Target ASAP and grab one.
Jasper’s Shakespeare Doll - I found this at a local shop in Occoquan, Virginia. It was hand made by a local artisan there and I knew the instant I saw him sitting on the shelf that he was coming home with us. Luckily for me, Jasper loves him just as much as I do and he’s officially become his car seat buddy. Here’s a Baby Yoda version from Etsy if you’re looking for something as equally as adorable.
Yeti Coffee Mug - Okay, this was technically a December favorite since it was a Christmas gift from my husband but if you haven’t gotten your hands on one of these babies yet and you’re a mom, get one ASAP! They are worth every single penny and I can’t wait to get back to Alaska so I can use mine again. LOL!
Thrifted
Vintage Pistachio Sweater - I’m obsessed with this green sweater I thrifted my first week visiting in Virginia. I can’t wait to share a more in-depth review of my thrifting adventures over the month of January but this behind-the-scenes look will have to do for now. This particular shade of green has been pretty trendy recently and I’ve even seen an extremely similar sweater at Target so I’m really glad I decided to push myself outside of my style comfort zone and try this baby out.
Cream Collared Shirt - This cream collared shirt was a totally random purchase. I hit up a Goodwill about a week ago on my way to grab lunch after visiting the doctor for bronchitis (ICYMI: you can catch up on my latest Diary post). I felt like crap and the Goodwill wasn’t giving me any good thrifting vibes but I’m so glad I decided to try this shirt on and ultimately spend the $2 to add it to my wardrobe. It’s silky soft and has a feminine detail around the edges that I don’t normally wear which makes it great for layering as I did here with this graphic tee. You’re definitely going to be seeing this baby on my Instagram a lot!
Read, Watched, + Listened
Present Over Perfect by Shauna Niequist - This book has been on my reading list for a while now and I saw it was included on Kindle with Prime so I decided to grab it. It’s been a pretty easy read so far but I don’t have any strong feelings about it yet.
Lincoln Rhyme: Hunt for the Bone Collector - Apparently this is also a book but I’ve been obsessed with the show lately! Usually, I want to wait until the whole season is out before I binge something but I haven’t been able to get enough of this show! I normally prefer documentary-style crime television but Lincoln Rhyme is so well done and intriguing. I can’t wait to see what happens next!
Crime Junkies - I don’t know why I waited so long to jump on the Crime Junkie podcast bandwagon but I’m a full-fledged fan now. I wasn’t sure at first but the quick episodes really get me thinking about each case and wanting to know and research more. Listening to this has me thinking about starting my own true-crime podcast (I probably won’t but I can officially say that I will be launching a podcast in 2020!).
Experienced
Traveling with Jasper solo has hands down been my favorite thing of January 2020. As a mom who struggles with anxiety, I was a mess when I was getting ready to fly across the country with a baby on my own. Even though I had made the trip with him once already when we moved to Alaska, I didn’t feel confident about making the trip alone. But motherhood is one of those wild life things that will test you and push you out of your comfort zone in ways you never could have imagined. I’m so happy we started off the year traveling, even if it meant knocking me off of my schedule and being away from my husband. I’m looking forward to traveling more with Jasper throughout the year to come!
