The 5 Best True Crime Podcasts to Listen to Right Now
If you didn’t already know, I’m a huge fan of podcasts. Chances are, if you’re riding in my car we’re probably listening to a podcast. I got fed up with my local radio station last year and haven’t looked back since! Commuting to and from work 5 days a week means I’m constantly looking for new podcasts to listen to. Since we already talked about Wedding Planning podcasts, I figured now would be a great time to introduce you to my other true love: true crime.
I’m not sure what it is but I have always been obsessed with true crime. I used to spend hours on end watching Investigation Discovery. Since I don’t have cable anymore (and I’ve pretty much watched everything there is on Netflix and Hulu) true crime podcasts have become a staple in my commute to and from work. If you’re a fan of true crime then you’re in luck because today I’m sharing the five best true crime podcasts to listen to right now!
My Favorite Murder
My Favorite Murder is a huge podcast that kind of just exploded out of nowhere. I honestly don’t even remember where I first heard about it but Karen and Georgia are serious gems that will have you laughing hysterically by the end of every episode. Justin and I binged listened to the entire show in probably one month (there’s a lot of episodes). If you’ve never heard of My Favorite Murder, it’s pretty much exactly what the title suggests. Each week, Karen and Georgia, the comedic hosts, each share the story of a different murder. Their witty banter will make even the most iconic murders seem fresh and new.
And That’s Why We Drink
And That’s Why We Drink is relatively new to my podcasts collection and I found them (thankfully) because they found me on Twitter. I just started listening to And That’s Why We Drink this past weekend and I’m already obsessed. Christine does the murders and wine and Em does paranormal and milkshakes. What’s not to love? If you’re a fan of the MFM style of podcast then And That’s Why We Drink is right up your alley too. I particularly enjoy the bits about the paranormal because that’s not something I’m really into on my own but love hearing about. The way these two pair their respective subjects is pretty much a match made in heaven.
Case File
You’ll love Case File if you’re a fan of Australian accents. The Australian produced true crime podcasts focuses mostly on murders that happen in Australia which is great for those of us true crime podcast aficionados. There have only been a few episodes of Case File that I’ve actually heard of the murder previously which is fantastic if you have a queue filled with true crime podcasts. Case File is an in depth look at the murder from start to finish so if you’re a fan of documentary style true crime shows, Case File is definitely for you.
Martinis and Murder
Looking for a little lighter take on murder (if that can even be taken lightly?) then look no further than the Oxygen produced podcasts, Martinis and Murder. I found Martinis and Murder after searching for true crime podcasts on the podcast app from Apple and was surprised to learn that it had just started because of Oxygen’s impending switch to an all true crime network. John and Darren are absolutely hysterical and John is even an alumni of WVU just like me! In fact, if you listen to the second episode (I think) you’ll hear them shout out my tweet!
Someone Knows Something
If you’re an OG true crime podcast listener because of Serial, then you’ll love Someone Knows Something. SKS is a Canadian produced podcast that is on its second season currently. Each season, a documentarian takes on a new unsolved case, much like Serial, and features interviews with family and friends who are trying to solve these murders. The second season is all about Sheryl Sheppard. I’m currently in the middle of the season and basically glued to my seat wanting to know what happened!
Do you have a favorite true crime podcast? I’m always on the look for new ones so definitely leave your recommendations below! I’m going to keep sharing my favorite podcasts on the blog so stay tuned for more suggestions coming soon!
